duets and posts with hashtag usage

My older brother is the best writer I know. Hands down.

Like, we had the same AP English teacher. Dave graduated the year before I did, so in English every essay that was read as, like, the example essay was written by him the year before. No joke.

I'm not even kidding.

The kid totally aced the AP English test, and I won't tell you my score. This happened to me a lot in high school.

And I'm convinced it's because he was breastfed longer than I was (my mother denies, but if not that, then what? The red hair?).

Now he's in law school with 11 month-old twin boys and a wife and weird jobs to support them and no time to write. So he sends me emails like this:

J Dub,

You know how sometimes a duet can just blow you away? For example, the new Pink song with that one Emo/Hipster guy? Their musical chemistry is outstanding.

You should post a “wishlist” of duets you’d like to hear—musicians that you think would be amazing together, both cross-genre and in-genre. For example….Garth Brooks and T Swizzle before she went pop? Lead singer of Imagine Dragons and Kelly Clarkson? Blake Shelton and lead singer of Sugarland?

I’m looking forward to seeing this….

I'll get an email like this from him, oh, every couple of months. It's very stagemom-esque of him, don't you think?, living out his writing dreams through his plunky little sister (and her blog of 3 or 4 readers...#himom).

Well don't you worry, I've created that list, and I'd like some input...

Here we go, Dave, with Duets That Would Have Blown Me Away Had They Been Executed:

1. Garth Brooks and Michael Jackson
that one's a no brainer, come on people

2. Elton John and Allison Kraus

3. Josh Groban and Scotty McCreery (think about it....)

4. Nate Ruess and Amy Winehouse

and on that note 5. Garth Brooks and Amy Winehouse

WHO COULD NOT SOUND GOOD WITH GARTH BROOKS?!?

6. Karen Carpenter and Adam Levine

7. CeeLo and John Mayer

*Note that Taylor Swift was not mentioned in any of the seven. She blew any chance she had to be on one of my lists after all of her over-dramatic hand motions in her duet with Tim McGraw at the ACM's. #sorrynotsorry

  1. Mission companions and I would read and re-read Dave's letters. They were that entertaining. My all time favorite had to be about tuna fish! P.S. Miss you!
